NewsUK NewsSussex PoliceA man has died after a van plunged over the side of a cliff in the seaside town of Peacehaven in East Sussex at around 4.30pm this afternoon, police have said20:06, 01 Jul 2026Updated 20:27, 01 Jul 2026A man has died after a van plunged over a cliff at a popular seaside spot in East Sussex crashing onto the beach below.‌Police have descended on the town of Peacehaven in the Lewes district of East Sussex following reports of a vehicle going over a cliff there at about 4.30pm this afternoon.‌A section of fencing along the top of the cliff has reportedly been destroyed, with an area near to Seaview Road in the town cordoned off by police.‌In a statement Sussex Police said: "Police received a report of a van going over the cliff edge at Peacehaven at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, 1 July."The van was located and the driver, a man who is yet to be formally identified, was sadly found deceased.‌"Police are investigating the full circumstances of this tragic incident and the coroner’s officer has been informed."The area has been closed off by Sussex Police with enquiries ongoing.Lewes District council said in a statement: "Sussex Police are responding to an incident involving a vehicle at Friars Bay, Peacehaven.Article continues below"LDC officers are on site supporting.
