A faction of the African Democratic Congress led by Nafiu Gombe has distanced the party from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition on its platform, insisting that the party has already concluded its nomination process and adopted Professor Chris Uba as its presidential candidate.

The faction also disowned the David Mark-led National Working Committee of the party, describing it as an unauthorised body with no constitutional or legal standing to act on behalf of the party.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Gombe said the clarification became necessary to protect the party’s identity and prevent what he described as attempts to misrepresent its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He maintained that Atiku “is not, and has never been,” the presidential candidate of the ADC.
