NewsUK NewsFireResidents in Frome in Somerset have been told to keep doors and windows closed as eight fire engines were scrambled to the massive blaze next to a supermarket19:17, 01 Jul 2026Updated 19:24, 01 Jul 2026Fire crews have raced to the scene of a huge fire which broke out next door to an M&S store in Somerset this evening.‌Residents in the area have been warned to keep their doors and windows closed as smoke billows into the air.‌Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has dispatched right fire engines to tackle the flames at the abandoned building on Kingsway this afternoon.‌Fire engines from Frome, Castle Cary, Street, Shepton Mallet and Wells fire stations were sent to the scene following reports shortly before 3pm today.Pictures show the three story warehouse building well alight as fire crews battle for bring the incident under control.‌"In a statement the fire service said: "We currently have eight pumping appliances plus special appliances at a three-storey derelict building fire on Kingsway, Frome."The building is fully involved in fire and crews are using three main jets to tackle the fire. Cordons have been put in place due to the structural instability of the building."Please keep your windows and doors closed if you live nearby due to the smoke."Article continues belowIn an update just before 5pm the fire service added: "Two water carriers and two aerial ladder platforms have been mobilised to the scene.
