Ashley Cole’s debut as a senior football manager is already over. The former England left-back has parted ways with Italian Serie B club Cesena after a tenure that lasted less than four months, producing a record that, charitably, could be described as underwhelming.
Cole was appointed head coach on March 15, 2026, with a contract running through June 30, 2026. He managed just eight matches, winning one, drawing three, and losing four. The club cited a change in strategy as the reason for the split.
A brief and bumpy ride in Serie B
The 45-year-old’s lone victory came against Catanzaro, a team positioned as playoff contenders at the time. His contract included an option for extension beyond the end of June. Cesena opted not to exercise it, instead choosing to move in a different direction as they plan for next season. The departure coincides with the June 30 contract expiration.
