LOOTING in Clermont was linked to opportunistic crime as locals “took advantage” of the March and March movement’s call for illegal immigrants to self deport by raiding closed shops owned by foreign nationals.
Last night, looting occurred sporadically across the Clermont and Cornubia.
This was hours after protests by the anti-illegal immigration movement, March and March.
Sizwe Goge, chairperson of the Clermont Community Policing Forum (CPF), said trouble-makers saw an opportunity to loot and they targeted seven shops.
“Protestors were a part of the March and March protest, and it was peaceful until some of the locals from the community took advantage of the situation and began looting shops.
