July 1 (UPI) -- Lawyers for E. Jean Carroll have asked a federal judge to release $5.8 million owed to her one day after the Supreme Court refused President Donald Trump's request to overturn a ruling that found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming the writer.

She filed a memorandum Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The filing accused Trump of attempting to delay the release of a $5 million penalty against him. Lawyers said they're also seeking another $800,000 in interest, The Hill reported.

The memorandum was filed one day after the Supreme Court declined Trump's appeal to have the $5 million civil penalty tossed.

Carroll's lawyers requested a deadline of July 10 for all briefings in the matter to be completed, CNN reported.
