Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) and Akhila Karnataka Janajagruti Vedike organised ‘Swasthya Sankalpa’, and online wellness pledge programme, in Dharmasthala on Tuesday (June 30) to create awareness against drug abuse among students in the State.The programme, held to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, was attended by 1,31,039 students from 1,281 schools and colleges in the State. Inaugurating the event, Dharmasthala Pattadhikari and SKDRDP president D. Veerendra Heggade said, “The youth are the country’s assets. Today, we need to be careful that they do not fall prey to vices. While the five senses push us towards vices, it is our duty to keep them under control. We should be careful not to make mistakes consciously. Vices ruin our lives. We should have the attitude of rejecting evil. Students should always be careful not to stray from the path for any reason.”Narayana Hrudalaya-Bengaluru president Devi Prasad Shetty, who participated as a resource person, said, “The youth should use their conscious minds to shape their futures. They should not fall prey to any drug addiction and should become assets of the country and engage in public service and social service to protect society.” Senior police officer H.N. Venkatesh Prasad was another resource person. SKDRDP executive director S.S. Anil Kumar and others were present.So far, around 24,500 Swasthya Sankalpa programmes have been organised through Janajagruti Vedike, creating awareness among 21 lakh students against addiction.
