An anti-drug awareness session was organised at St. Philomena’s College in Mysuru on Tuesday (July 21) as part of the city police’s ongoing Operation ‘RISE’ and ‘Beda Bro’ campaigns to sensitise students about the dangers of substance abuse.Mysuru Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, Deputy Commissioners of Police Sundar Raj and Priyamvada, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi, senior police officials and college authorities participated in the programme, which focused on preventing drug abuse among youth and encouraging community support and participation in making the city “drug-free”.Ms. Latkar highlighted the objectives of the city police’s anti-drug initiatives. On the occasion, an anti-drug pledge was administered to the students.Operation RISE — Refuse, Inform, Support and Empower — aims to educate young people about the harmful effects of drugs, encourage them to reject substance abuse, motivate citizens to report drug-related activities, support victims of addiction and empower communities through sustained awareness programmes.The ‘Beda Bro’ campaign seeks to discourage youngsters from experimenting with drugs by highlighting the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse.The city police have urged the public to report drug-related information through the police WhatsApp helpline number 8277948080. The QR code-based reporting system was introduced under the Vimukti anti-drug campaign to seek public participation in the fight against narcotics.
