Andrew Chauke
President Cyril Ramaphosa has received the long-awaited report of the Inquiry into the Fitness to Hold Office of South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke, marking a significant milestone in a process that has followed nearly a year of suspension, public hearings and intense scrutiny of the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) senior leadership.
Retired Constitutional Court Justice Baaitse Nkabinde formally handed the report to the President on Wednesday, the Presidency confirmed.
The inquiry was established on September 29, 2025, in terms of Section 12(6)(a) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act and was mandated to determine whether Chauke remains fit and proper to continue serving as Director of Public Prosecutions, following what the Presidency has consistently described as “serious allegations” against him.
Chauke has been on paid suspension since July 20, 2025, pending the outcome of the inquiry. The Presidency said Ramaphosa will now consider the panel’s findings before deciding Chauke’s future.
