Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev met with former heavyweight boxing champion Dr. Wladimir Klitschko during the Ukrainian legend’s visit to Bulgaria ahead of the European Boxing Championships, which will take place in Sofia from September 15 to 26 at Asics Arena. The tournament will bring together Europe’s top male and female boxers and marks Bulgaria’s fourth time hosting the European Men's Championship.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor for Education, Sports and Youth Activities Desislava Zhelyazkova, Bulgarian Boxing Federation President Krasimir Ininski, European Boxing Secretary General Martin Volke, and manager Alexander Krassyuk.
Although the championship was the occasion for the visit, the discussion focused largely on leadership, public service, and the responsibilities of managing major cities. Praising Terziev's approach, Wladimir Klitschko said, “I see in you the thinking of a real mayor. It doesn’t matter which city it is. A mayor is someone who truly experiences everything that happens to his city.”
During the meeting, Klitschko connected Terziev via video call with his brother, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The two mayors discussed the challenges local authorities face, particularly governing a capital under wartime conditions.
