Wladimir Klitschko has arrived in Bulgaria, where the boxing legend was welcomed at Vasil Levski Airport by Bulgarian Boxing Federation President Krasimir Ininski. The visit comes at Ininski's invitation and is centered on preparations for Sofia's hosting of the European Boxing Championships for men and women later this year.
Recognized as one of the most accomplished figures in the history of heavyweight boxing, Klitschko is serving as a global ambassador for the sport during his stay. His career includes an Olympic gold medal from Atlanta 1996, 64 victories in 69 professional heavyweight bouts, and two reigns as world champion. He held the IBF, WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles for a record 4,382 days, defeating 23 challengers during that span, an unmatched achievement in the division. He is also a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
During his visit to Sofia, Klitschko is scheduled to meet Minister of Youth and Sports Encho Keryazov, Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Vessela Lecheva, and Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev. He was officially received at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, where Keryazov presented him with a special commemorative plaque.
The main focus of the meetings is Sofia's upcoming hosting of the European Boxing Championships, which will take place at Asics Arena from September 15 to 26. The tournament will mark the first European Boxing Championship organized under the auspices of European Boxing and will also be the first time Bulgaria hosts the event simultaneously for both men and women.
