Harvey Weinstein was rushed to hospital after suffering heart failure due to pneumonia in prison, according to sources cited by TMZ.Insiders said the disgraced film producer, who has suffered a series of health scares since his incarceration in 2020, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital's prison ward in Manhattan two weeks ago after experiencing breathing difficulties. At the time, he was being held on Rikers Island in New York City while awaiting sentencing in September following his 2025 sexual assault conviction.Weinstein is now reportedly being treated for pneumonia with antibiotics and remains on an IV and heart monitor as doctors continue to observe his condition.During his incarceration, Weinstein has suffered from multiple health problems. In October 2024, he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia and was hospitalised in December of the same year after concerning blood test results.Weinstein's lawyer Imran Ansari said at the time: '[Weinstein] has been suffering from a lack of adequate medical care and enduring deplorable and inhumane conditions on Rikers Island.'Ansari went on to cite 'an alarming blood test result' that was a cause for concern - enough so that his client was rushed from Rikers back to Bellevue. Former Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein appears in Manhattan Criminal Court in New York City on June 25, 2026Not offering more detail, he said that Weinstein's condition is treatable, but had been serious enough for officials to forgo his current treatment plan in prison.Weinstein received a 23-year-sentence in 2020 after being convicted of rape and a criminal sexual act. His downfall launched Hollywood's #MeToo movement, with over 100 women coming forward with allegations of rape and sexual assault. The 2020 verdict was then overturned, but he was reconvicted in 2025 of sexual assault against a different woman. In 2023, the former producer received a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted in Los Angeles of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault. And last week, prosecutors in New York chose not to pursue a rape charge against Weinstein for a fourth time. The case had already been tried three times, resulting in one conviction that was later overturned and two mistrials after juries failed to reach a unanimous verdict.Weinstein's other convictions, including a separate sexual offence conviction in New York and convictions in California, remain in place.Prosecutors announced on Thursday that they were dropping the case following discussions with Weinstein's accuser Jessica Mann, who said she did not wish to endure the demands of another trial.Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr said: 'To be clear, we believe Ms Mann's account and her credibility as a witness.''This has been an extraordinarily taxing ordeal for her, and she has never wavered while testifying in front of two grand juries and three trial juries over the course of eight years.'He added: 'We thank her for her honesty and her tremendous bravery.'
