A house was completely destroyed when a huge compound wall of an adjacent property collapsed on it at Kerebail, near Thokkottu, under Ullal City Municipality in the early hours of Wednesday (July 1).There was no loss of life as one Kishore and his four family members residing in the house had shifted two weeks ago. They had moved away expecting that the high-rise compound wall might collapse during the rainy season as a portion of the wall had leaned towards Mr. Kishore’s house during the last rainy season.As Mr. Kishore had complained to Ullal City Municipal Council (CMC) about the same, the officials, as a precautionary measure, had recently shifted families from 10 nearby houses,including that of Mr. Kishore, to rented houses.Local people have accused Ullal CMC of negligence for not getting the compound wall rebuilt by its owner.Houses damaged in cityMeanwhile, the house of one Jayaprakash at Jayanagara in Jalligudde partially collapsed due to heavy rains in the early hours on Wednesday (July 1). Another house, owned by one Saraswati in the same locality, developed cracks and is facingthe threat of collapse.Santosh Bajal, secretary, Dakshina Kannada unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) said that the Mangaluru City Corporation should help the owners rebuild their houses, apart from taking all precautionary measures to prevent any loss of life.
