Days after two rain-related wall collapse tragedies in Bengaluru claimed eight lives, another fatal incident has occurred amid intermittent rains. Two workers were killed after a wall collapsed on them on Sunday, the third such rain-triggered disaster in the city within a week. The incident comes in the wake of the collapse of the compound wall of Bowring Hospital, which killed seven people during heavy rains. Subsequently, on May 29, an autorickshaw driver lost his life when the compound wall of a club in Vijayanagar caved in.The two victims have been identified as Dyamappa and Babulal, both construction workers. According to the police, rains over the past two days had weakened an under construction wall. When workers resumed construction activity, the wall suddenly gave way and collapsed. The two workers were trapped under the debris and sustained fatal injuries. Despite rescue efforts, both died at the scene. The construction site belonged to a person identified as Patel. The bodies have been shifted to the Nelamangala Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.A case of death due to negligence has been registered at the Madanayakanahalli Police Station against the owner and site engineer. Further investigation is under way. With the latest incident claiming two more lives, concerns are mounting over the safety of ageing and weakened structures across the city during the monsoon season. Authorities are expected to inspect vulnerable buildings and compound walls to prevent further loss of life.
