The new G-SHOCK x Coca-Cola GA-2100CC didn't stay in stock for long. Launched in India at Rs 14,995, it sold out on Casio India's website almost immediately. Within days, listings on the resale market had climbed to nearly double that, with prices hovering between Rs 27,000 and Rs 30,000.That alone says something about the demand. But after spending time with the watch, what's even more interesting is why people wanted it.Because in a year where almost every wearable is trying to become an AI assistant, a health tracker or a second smartphone, the GA-2100CC succeeds by doing none of those things. It simply tells the time, survives just about anything you throw at it and looks good while doing it.More than just another collaborationBrand collaborations have become a familiar playbook across consumer tech. Smartphone makers have been doing them for years. OnePlus had its Star Wars and McLaren editions, Realme partnered with Thor: Love and Thunder in 2023, and countless others have followed the same formula. Most of these products are designed to generate short-term excitement, sell a limited run and disappear. A genuine cultural moment is much rarer. The G-SHOCK x Coca-Cola GA-2100CC sits somewhere in between. Created to celebrate Coca-Cola's 140th anniversary, it doesn't simply plaster logos across the watch or rely entirely on nostalgia. Instead, Casio builds the design around one of the most recognisable industrial designs ever created: Coca-Cola's iconic contour bottle. The green bezel and strap reference the original glass bottle, the day indicator echoes its silhouette, the dial texture nods to carbonation, the red accents resemble a bottle cap, and even the case back and packaging continue the theme.None of these details dramatically change what the GA-2100 is, nor are they meant to. What they do is make the collaboration feel more considered than many limited editions we see across the consumer tech industry. It's still a branded product, but one where the design tells a story instead of simply reminding you who paid for it.The collaboration also benefits from the platform it is built on. The GA-2100, better known among enthusiasts as the "CasiOak", has become one of Casio's most recognisable modern watches. Its octagonal bezel inevitably draws comparisons with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, but at a fraction of the price. That has made it one of the easiest entry points into watch collecting, particularly for younger buyers discovering the hobby through YouTube and Instagram rather than traditional luxury retailers. Any limited edition built on the CasiOak platform is almost guaranteed to attract attention, and the Coca-Cola version is no exception.G-SHOCK x Coca-Cola GA-2100CCThe best wearable we used this week wasn't trying to be smartWhat stood out most after wearing the GA-2100CC wasn't the collaboration. It was how refreshing the experience felt.Underneath the design is the same Carbon Core Guard construction that has made the GA-2100 so popular. The watch weighs just over 50 grams, measures under 12mm thick and retains everything people expect from a G-SHOCK: 200-metre water resistance, shock protection, world time, a stopwatch, dual analog-digital displays and a battery that lasts around three years.More importantly, it asks absolutely nothing from you. There are no notifications, no health scores, no daily goals, no software updates and no subscription waiting around the corner. You wear it, glance at the time and forget it's even there until someone asks about it.That simplicity feels surprisingly relevant today, and there's no denying that a watch like this adds a style factor few smartwatches can match. But during our time with it, we also realised how much we missed wearing our Apple Watch. Not because we wanted another screen on our wrist, but because we'd become used to having health metrics, activity tracking and recovery data available throughout the day. That made us realise there's probably a middle ground. If you're looking to move away from a smartwatch and reduce screen time, an analogue watch like the GA-2100CC paired with a screenless health tracker makes a compelling combination. Devices like the Whoop band or smart rings such as Oura and Gabbit, both of which we've reviewed previously, continue to track your fitness, sleep and recovery without replacing your watch with another display. That, perhaps, is where the wearable market is heading. Smartwatches are becoming more intelligent every year, powered by AI and increasingly sophisticated health features. At the same time, we're seeing growing interest in products that separate technology from style. The GA-2100CC doesn't compete with the Apple Watch because it isn't trying to. It simply reminds you that a watch can still just be a watch, while another device quietly handles the data in the background. The fact that this watch sold out almost instantly and is already commanding a significant premium on the resale market suggests there is still strong demand for products that prioritise design and simplicity over connectivity. That's a small but interesting signal at a time when almost every consumer tech category is racing towards AI.First impressionsThe G-SHOCK x Coca-Cola GA-2100CC isn't revolutionary, nor is it trying to be. At its core, it's still the excellent GA-2100 that watch enthusiasts have appreciated for years, wrapped in one of Casio's more thoughtful collaborations. The Coca-Cola references feel restrained rather than excessive, the build quality remains excellent, and the watch continues to deliver everything people expect from a G-SHOCK.At its retail price of Rs 14,995, it was an easy recommendation. The fact that it is already selling for nearly twice that on the resale market says more about demand than it does about hype.Perhaps the biggest takeaway, though, has nothing to do with Coca-Cola or Casio. Spending time with the GA-2100CC reminded us that while we still value the health insights and convenience of a smartwatch, we don't necessarily want every wearable on our wrist to be another screen. Sometimes, the best setup isn't choosing between a smartwatch and an analogue watch. It's letting each do what it does best.
G-SHOCK x Coca-Cola GA-2100CC Review: The anti-smartwatch we didn't know we needed
The G-SHOCK x Coca-Cola GA-2100CC, launched in India at Rs 14,995 and now reselling for nearly double after selling out, proves that not every wearable needs to be a smartwatch. Built on the popular GA-2100 "CasiOak" platform, the limited-edition watch pairs thoughtful Coca-Cola-inspired design with G-SHOCK's signature durability, lightweight build and practical features, while deliberately avoiding notifications, health tracking and other smart functions.
