The Department of Correctional Services has officially taken over the management of the former Mangaung Correctional Centre, now renamed Grootvlei Maximum Correctional Centre, following the expiry of a 25-year public-private partnership with G4S.

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has officially assumed full management and operational responsibility for the former Mangaung Correctional Centre, which has been renamed Grootvlei Maximum Correctional Centre.

The facility will now operate under the Grootvlei Management Area in the Free State/Northern Cape Region.

The transition follows the expiry of the Department's 25-year Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with Bloemfontein Correctional Contracts (BCC), operated by G4S, which ended on June 30.

DCS said the correctional centre is operating in accordance with the Correctional Services Act, 1998 (Act No. 111 of 1998), as well as all applicable policies, regulations and operational standards governing correctional services in South Africa.
