Jérémy Jacquet is now, officially, a Liverpool player. The French centre-back’s registration with the club took effect on July 1, 2026, completing a transfer from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais that was agreed months ago.
The deal is worth £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons, totaling approximately €65 million. For a 20-year-old defender who only made his professional debut in January 2024, that’s a statement of intent from a club that clearly sees him as a cornerstone of its future backline.
How the deal came together
Liverpool and Jacquet agreed to a pre-contract on February 2, 2026. Rather than pulling him out of competitive action mid-season, the club loaned him back to Rennes for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.
Jacquet had extended his contract with Rennes until 2029 in May 2025, which gave the French club leverage in negotiations. That extension explains why the fee landed where it did. Rennes wasn’t selling a player with one year left on his deal. They were selling a locked-in asset, and they priced it accordingly.
