Authorities in Thessaloniki are investigating a series of early morning attacks involving gas canisters that targeted the homes of three officials linked to Greece’s ruling New Democracy party, local media reported.
The incidents occurred between 4 a.m. and 4.30 a.m. in the city’s Toumba and Pylaia districts, according to reports.
The targets were identified as Zisis Ioakeimobits, president of the New Democracy party’s steering committee in the Thessaloniki regional unit; former MP Savvas Anastasiadis; and New Democracy candidate Afroditi Nestora.
The devices exploded outside the residences, with the attack on Nestora’s home resulting in five injuries, according to local media reports. Those injured included Nestora herself and her mother, while three other people suffered respiratory problems.
Police in Thessaloniki launched an investigation into the attacks and began searching for those responsible.
