Focus Features has released the first trailer for Werwulf, giving audiences a chilling glimpse at Robert Eggers’ latest period horror film led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.Set to arrive in theaters on December 25, Werwulf transports us to 13th-century England, where a mysterious beast begins terrorizing a remote countryside. As fear spreads through the isolated village, ancient folklore slowly turns into a horrifying reality.The trailer centers on Taylor-Johnson, who appears to portray the titular werewolf. The footage teases a gruesome transformation as his character succumbs to the monstrous curse, leaving terrified villagers scrambling to survive the growing nightmare lurking in the fog.Werwulf reunites Eggers with several collaborators from Nosferatu. Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp return after starring in the filmmaker’s acclaimed vampire epic, while Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson also reunite with Eggers for another gothic tale steeped in myth and superstition.The supporting cast includes Jack Morris, Jan Bijvoet, Ritchi Edwards, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach. Eggers once again teams up with Icelandic author Sjón, with whom he previously co-wrote The Northman.
