A dispute over the quality of a uniform lead to a labour court ruling in favour of fired cleaner.
The Labour Court heard the case of a cleaner who worked for a cleaning company and was given “cheap pants” as part of her uniform by her employer, who wanted her to be sacked.
The woman, identified only as A Tobi, was sacked by Falcon Cleaning but reinstated following an arbitration award in her favour.
Aggrieved by this finding, Falcon Cleaning turned to the Gqeberha Labour Court to have this ruling overturned.
Tobi was employed by the company as a cleaner from March 2020 until her dismissal in August the following year. During her employment, she rendered cleaning services at Williams Hunt, the company’s client.
