Even though she only has a limited income, Sam Balderstone says it is still possible to save money if you are shrewd – and has even been able to afford a holiday cruise.

Sam, 56, who lives in Peterborough and is married to Peter, is a housewife with a civil service medical retirement pension. She ended up medically retiring at the age of 28 after suffering a mental health breakdown.

She receives a civil service pension of £5,892 a year – which works out at £491 a month – but despite this low income, she still manages to save money by keeping a tight control on her finances.
