The race for fautasi glory intensified on Wednesday as crews battled through two heats to secure places in Thursday's highly anticipated final of the American Samoa Fautasi Regatta.
In Heat 1, MT 3 of Nuuuli powered its way to first place, followed by Alao in second and Lupelele of Iliili in third. Paepaeulupoo of Aua finished fourth, Matasaua of Manu'atele came in fifth, Fale o Latia of Pava'ia'i placed sixth, while Iseula of Fagatogo crossed the line in seventh.
Heat 2 saw Fuao of Vatia claim top honours, with Fealofani Samoa 3 of Fagasa securing second place and Aeto of Pago Pago finishing third. Lowrider of Nuuuli placed fourth, followed by Taema of Leone in fifth and Airforce 1 of Nuuuli in sixth.
The results mean the top three finishers from each heat have earned their spots in tomorrow's final race. Advancing from Heat 1 are MT 3 (Nuuuli), Alao and Lupelele (Iliili), while Fuao (Vatia), Fealofani Samoa 3 (Fagasa) and Aeto (Pago Pago) move on from Heat 2.
Race officials said the six qualifying crews will now prepare for what is expected to be a fiercely contested final, with village pride and championship honours on the line.
