The French Embassy in Samoa has announced that French Senators Christophe André Frassa and Guy Benarroche have arrived in Samoa on a mission to learn more about the country’s parliamentary system.
The two French senators will be in Samoa from 1 to 3 July.
They arrived from the Cook Islands. They have met with the Speaker of Parliament, Auuapaau Mulipola Aloitafua Mulipola. It will continue on Thursday and Friday with meetings with members of Parliament and Samoan authorities.
The senators will also engage with civil society organisations leading nature conservation initiatives in Samoa, such as the Samoa Conservation Society and the Samoa Voyaging Society.
Since 2008, Senator Christophe André Frassa has represented French citizens living abroad as a member of Les Républicains (conservative right). Senator Guy Benarroche has served since 2020 as a member of the Ecologists party, representing the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
