Doctors at Saveetha Hospital performed two deceased donor liver transplantations on patients with end-stage liver disease.The recipients, Amit Saha, 37, from Kolkata, and Viswabarathi, 67, from Chennai, were diagnosed with decompensated chronic liver disease with portal hypertension and liver transplantation was the only definitive treatment.The surgeries were led by J. Nirmal, surgical gastroenterologist,Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplant, Saveetha Hospital. The procedures, each lasting around 10 hours, were performed on May 24 and June 4.The donor organs were retrieved from two individuals declared brain-dead after sustaining traumatic brain injuries in separate road traffic accidents. The hospital acknowledged the consent of the donor families for organ donation.According to the hospital, both recipients had an uneventful postoperative recovery with satisfactory graft function and continue to show steady clinical improvement under the care of the multidisciplinary transplant team.Addressing a press conference on Monday, N. M. Veeraiyan, Chancellor of Saveetha Hospital, thanked the donor families for consenting to organ donation and commended the healthcare professionals involved in the transplant procedures. J.
