I’ve long been a fan of Tissot. It’s the brand I chose to wear on my wedding day and one I’ve recommended countless times to new collectors looking for their first Swiss-made watch. So when I discovered the company had released a digital version of its wildly popular PRX collection, I was more than a little curious to see whether it could live up to the hype.Admittedly, I was a little late to the game. The Tissot PRX Digital was first introduced in 2023 and takes inspiration from Tissot’s original 1978 Seastar PRX while embracing the growing popularity of digital watches. For those unfamiliar, PRX stands for Precise, Robust and X — with the X representing the watch’s 10-atmosphere water-resistance rating.Available in three different finishes—silver face with a silver bracelet, black face with a silver bracelet and gold face with a matching gold bracelet—the PRX Digital comes in both 35mm and 40mm case sizes. I opted for the 35mm black-and-silver version, and it has quickly become one of the most-worn watches in my collection.AmazonSpecs at a glance:Case Diameter: 35mmThickness: 11.4mmLug-Lug: 39mmBand Width: 11mmWater Resistance:100 metersOr opt for the larger size: Case Diameter: 40mmThickness: 11.2mmLug-Lug: 44.6Band Width: 12mmWater Resistance: 100 metersIn fact, I’m wearing it as I write this. I’ve been wearing the 35mm model for the past six months, and it wears true to size while never feeling bulky or overbearing. It delivers exactly what a retro-inspired digital watch should: a slim, comfortable profile that feels straight out of the late 1970s. It’s one of those rare pieces that consistently earns compliments despite costing a fraction of what many luxury watches do.The integrated bracelet deserves special praise. It’s exceptionally comfortable, features a butterfly clasp and never snags my arm hair — something anyone knows can quickly ruin an otherwise great bracelet. While the bracelet can be swapped out, I’ve never once felt the need to do so.I’m not the only one who sees the appeal. Marya Ali, store manager at London’s viral Love Luxury resale boutique, describes Tissot as “a fantastic starting point for anyone building a watch collection,” noting that the timepiece looks more expensive than its price tag suggests.Unlike many affordable digital watches that rely on scratch-prone acrylic crystals, the PRX Digital features a flat sapphire crystal for added durability. The mirrored display, available in silver, gold or glossy black depending on the model, adds an upscale feel that separates it from nearly every other digital watch on the market. (I will admit the reflective surface can pick up fingerprints from time to time, but that’s a small tradeoff for how sharp it looks on the wrist.)Despite its minimal appearance, the Tissot PRX Digital packs in more functionality than I expected. Three well-sized pushers positioned around the case allow you to cycle through functions including a second time zone, stopwatch, countdown timer and alarm. There’s even a backlight that genuinely works well. It’s not overpowering, but provides just the right amount of illumination when checking the time in a movie theater, dark room or late at night.Battery life is equally impressive, with the quartz movement offering roughly four years of use before needing a replacement battery. All three models are crafted from stainless steel, while the gold version is finished with a gold PVD coating that adds a luxe flair.AmazonWhen the PRX Digital launched, some collectors were quick to compare it to other iconic digital watches already on the market, from brands like Casio. However, after spending considerable time with it, though, I think those comparisons miss the point. This takes the digital watch and kicks it up a notch with quality and craftsmanship: Tissot utilizes Swiss movement, which is highly respected in the watch world due to its superior quality. Other upgraded attributes include the stainless steel build with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal on the Tissot versus the chrome-plated resin case with mineral crystal of the Casio. Ali also noted that while the watch excels from a style standpoint, collectors focused primarily on investment potential or long-term appreciation may find stronger options elsewhere.Personally, I think that’s perfectly fine. Not every watch needs to be an investment. Some watches are simply meant to be worn and enjoyed, and that’s exactly where the PRX Digital shines. It captures the nostalgia of the digital watches that defined the late 1970s while elevating it with modern materials and the reliability you’d expect from a respected Swiss brand. When it comes to digital watches, I honestly don’t think the PRX Digital can be beat. It’s stylish, comfortable, versatile and, most importantly, makes me want to keep reaching for it day after day. If you’re looking for an elevated — yet still affordable — take on the digital watch, the Tissot PRX Digital might be the best place to start. You won’t regret it. I know I sure haven’t.“Absolutely delightful! Take your favorite Casio and spec it up to Swiss Quality and that’s this PRX.” — Kellen“Best digital watch ever for a more minimalist look. Swiss made. Precision designed.” — AshleyDel“I have many analog watches but I wanted a digital that could look elegant with formal wear and comfortable in blue jeans. This watch fits the mode well.” — Amazon Customer“The case and bracelet are 100%, standard-issue PRX, meaning that the quality, fit, and finish are examplary, no surpise there. The LCD screen is larger, and in my opinion clearer, than any other LCD watch I’ve seen before. It has every function that the average person or traveller is ever going to need, and it’s easier to operate that most other LCD watches I’ve tried. It’s a darn good watch.” — opinionatED
