REDMAGIC’s latest gaming tablet features a 9.06 inch, 2.4K OLED display with a 185 Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, support for up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and an active liquid cooling system.Debuting first in China as the REDMAGIC Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, where it sells for about $780 and up, the Android tablet will be available globally as the REDMAGIC Astra 2 Gaming Tablet later this summer: pricing and availability details will be announced on July 17.The starting price in China is for a model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There are also 16GB + 512GB and 16GB + 1TB versions that sell for around $880 and $1030, respectively.Global prices are usually a bit higher, and if that holds true this time, then the new tablet will likely be considerably more expensive than last year’s model, which sold for $549 and up at launch. That’s hardly surprising though – not only is this one of the first Android tablets to feature a liquid cooling system, it also brings display and processor upgrades… and comes at a time when memory and storage prices are through the roof. Most new phones, tablets, and PCs are expected to cost more moving forward.REDMAGIC’s new tablet also features a RedCore R4 gaming chip that “offloads GPU-intensive tasks, including rendering acceleration and memory optimization” to improve performance and efficiency, and display optimizations including a Synaptics S3930 touch controller with support for up o 2000 Hz touch response, 300 Hz multi-touch sampling rate, and 1ms input latency. The screen also supports for 60 Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz, 144 Hz, and 185 Hz display refresh rates, and up to 1,600 nits peak brightness or 1,100 nits full-screen brightness.Liquid cooling is aided by a micro pump that’s just 0.48mm thick, allowing the tablet to be as thin as 4.9mm at its thinnest point.Other features include stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an 8300 mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging (for the Chinese model, at least), and two USB Type-C ports, at least one of which is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port that supports 10 Gbps data transfer speeds and 4K/144Hz video output.Oh, and it’s a gaming tablet, so obviously there’s RGB lighting on the back. The tablet ships with REDMAGIC OS 11.5, which is based on Android 16.
