A woman and her three-year-old son have been reported missing from Puttaparthi in Sri Sathya Sai district, prompting police to launch a search operation.According to the police, G. Sumalatha (21), a resident of Gokulam locality, left home on June 29 with her son, Hemanth, stating that she was taking him to a nearby vaccination centre to administer polio drops.As the mother-son duo did not turn up even by afternoon, Sumalatha’s husband, along with relatives, launched a frantic search. However, they were unsuccessful and subsequently lodged a complaint with the Puttaparthi Urban police. A missing case has been registered and an investigation is under way.Three-year jail termMeanwhile, the District Sessions Court in Hindupur sentenced a youth to three years’ rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday, in addition to imposing a fine of ₹20,000 for attempting to murder a man in Sri Sathya Sai district in 2023.Police said the youth, Suresh, attacked a man, Chandrasekhar, with a knife at Shanthebidanur village on June 16, 2023, suspecting him of having an illicit relationship with his wife.Following the investigation, Hindupur Rural police filed a chargesheet, leading to Suresh’s conviction.
