Environment and Water Minister Rositsa Karamfilova-Blagova has assured that Bulgaria’s Black Sea waters remain clean, stating there is currently no evidence of active pollution and that tourists planning summer holidays along the coast have no reason for concern.

Speaking on NOVA NEWS, the minister said authorities had received multiple reports of suspected fuel oil stains appearing in different locations along the shoreline. However, inspections carried out by ministry teams did not confirm ongoing contamination. “Such cases are an everyday occurrence in the environment. We received a number of reports, sent teams to the site and carried out inspections. No active pollution has been found,” she said.

According to the ministry, instructions have already been issued for cleaning the affected areas, while the Maritime Administration has been tasked with identifying possible sources. Officials indicated that the case may be linked to older or delayed pollution rather than a new spill, although checks are continuing to rule out any active origin.

The minister was categorical that there is no immediate threat to coastal water quality. “The sea water is clean and there should be no panic,” she emphasized, stressing that monitoring efforts remain ongoing despite reassuring findings.
