It is the end of an era for Tai Ping Chinese Restaurant in Newlands, which closed its sit-down dining section on Tuesday, June 30, after serving customers for 44 years.

One of the oldest restaurants in Newlands, Tai Ping was established in 1982 by Tony Chong.

He ran the restaurant until 2006, when Colin Wing and Patrick Chong took over as co-owners.

For the past 20 years, they have continued the restaurant's legacy, serving authentic Chinese cuisine, including peking duck, chow mein and dim sum, prepared by long-serving chef James Feng, who has been with the restaurant for 29 years.
