Premium travel credit cards are more expensive than ever, but that does not mean they’re all overpriced.

The best premium credit cards can provide benefits exceeding their annual fees, from credits for travel and other spending to airport lounge access and insurance covering, for example, trip delays and lost luggage. That’s in addition to the points they earn, which are especially valuable since they can be moved to airline and hotel partners. Used well, these cards can easily return more value than their annual fees. Used poorly, they can become very expensive pieces of metal.

That is especially true now that several premium travel cards carry annual fees well above $600. The key is not just looking at how many benefits a card offers, but whether those benefits are easy to use.
