Mechanised fishing boats operators in Thoothukudi and Chinna Muttom of Kanniyakumari district have not ventured into the sea on Tuesday due to rough sea conditions triggered by strong winds.Rough weather conditions accompanied with gusty winds have persisted in the sea off Thoothukudi coast and Kanniyakumari coast since Monday.Accordingly, 233 boats based in Thoothukudi fishing harbour and around 350 boats based in Chinna Muttom fishing harbour remained ashore on Tuesday.Mechanised boat fishermen resumed operation on June 15, following the conclusion of a 61-day annual fishing ban period. With a reasonably good catch being reported, most mechanised boats had been venturing out to sea daily. However, fishermen expressed disappointment as the strong winds prevented them going fishing on Tuesday. Published - June 30, 2026 07:06 pm IST
