Ukraine's Embassy in France has established direct contact with police and medical authorities in Monaco following an explosion that injured a sanctioned Ukrainian businessman and members of his family.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service reported this to Ukrinform.

The Embassy of Ukraine in France, which is also responsible for relations with the Principality of Monaco, sent inquiries to the local authorities after reports emerged of the explosion in Monte Carlo.

According to preliminary information, surveillance cameras near the entrance to a residential building in Monaco recorded an unidentified individual at around 21:00 local time. The person allegedly left a backpack at the scene, which exploded shortly afterward.

The Ukrainian diplomatic mission said Monaco's law enforcement authorities activated an emergency security plan and are searching for the suspect. Monaco prosecutor's office has opened an investigation, while the legal classification of the incident is still being determined.
