The handling of an alleged child defilement case by the Imo State Police Command has sparked fresh controversy after the police allegedly failed to comply with a court order directing them to produce a second suspect for arraignment, with the prosecutor accused of appearing to defend the alleged perpetrator instead of prosecuting him.
SaharaReporters learnt that despite an order issued by the Family Court in Owerri on June 19 directing the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, to ensure the production of 70-year-old Godfrey Enyeribe Amadi for arraignment, the suspect was neither brought before the court nor formally charged when the matter came up on Thursday, June 25.
Instead, according to sources familiar with the proceedings, the police prosecutor opposed the implementation of the court's directive.
"Upon the court order, the Commissioner of Police of the Imo State Police Command neither charged the alleged perpetrator, Godfrey Enyeribe Amadi, nor produced him in court on Thursday, June 25, 2026," a source told SaharaReporters.
