Daizen Maeda has dropped the strongest signal yet that his time at Celtic may be coming to an end. The 28-year-old Japanese forward, fresh off a gutting World Cup exit, appears ready to test himself at what he considers a higher level.
Japan’s 2-1 loss to Brazil in the round of 16 on June 29 ended Maeda’s tournament run. He played every minute of the match.
A season too good to ignore
His 2025-26 season at Celtic was arguably the best of his career. He scored in five consecutive league games during the Scottish Premiership campaign.
Celtic secured their 56th Scottish Premiership title, with Maeda playing a central role in the charge. He also contributed to a victorious Scottish Cup run, giving the club a domestic double.
