An application to rezone and annex a property for a data center in St. Joseph, Missouri, has been withdrawn.Capstone Technology Campus, a company owned by local businessman Steve Craig, was behind an application to annex a 130-acre land parcel at 6321 Pickett Road and rezone both 6321 and 5701 Pickett Road as part of a proposed data center development.“At the developer’s request, both applications have been withdrawn,” said a statement issued by the City of St. Joseph on June 26.The scheme had been due to be considered at a planning commission meeting on July 23.“Any future proposal would require the submission of new applications and follow the city’s standard review process,” says the statement.According to a draft fact sheet shared by the City of St. Joseph, the data center would have been developed by Atmosphere Data Centers, a US-based operator led by Chuck McBride, formerly of the Blue Owl-owned Radius DC.A draft site plan also shows that the site could have consisted of four data center buildings and a substation. Those opposed to the data center cited concerns about its impact on the environment, noise pollution, the limited economic impact, and argued that the land would be better suited to other development projects. Two petitions against the proposed facility have garnered more than 720 and 1,500 signatures at the time of writing.St Joseph is located in Buchanan County, western Missouri, on the state’s border with Kansas.
