One woman, called Lylaa, recently drew attention to an iconic Wimbledon dish - strawberries and cream - and she had some things to say about the price of the food.‌Lylaa Ali Shaikh, known as Salt and Shaikh on TikTok, admitted she had to try the treat during her recent visit to Wimbledon, but the price of it left her pretty floored. According to her, the cost was quite surprising, considering the sweet treat is so popular at the annual tennis event.‌It's not the first time someone has opened up about the topic either. Last year, another person also documented their experience of trying strawberries and cream at the event.‌In a clip shared online, Lylaa said: "People say Wimbledon is expensive, but when the famous strawberries and cream are only £2.85, is it really? I was on a mission to find out if they are actually worth it."Did you know Wimbledon gets through 2.5m strawberries every single championship? Every single strawberry is freshly picked and delivered daily from the same family-run farm in Kent."During our visit, they actually let us make our own portion. Firstly, we picked up our box, then we pulled off the green tops of the strawberries. Mind you, you can only have 10 strawberries per portion.‌"Then it was time to drown them in cream. I'm not usually a strawberries and cream person, but this actually converted me."The strawberries were very juicy and obviously very fresh. These strawberries are some of the nicest strawberries I've had."The cream added that silky smooth addition. The cream actually coated the strawberries perfectly without overpowering.‌"£2.85 at Wimbledon. Genuinely one of the best value things I've eaten all summer."Content cannot be displayed without consentClearly, Lylaa was impressed with the price. She thought the treat was good value for money.Article continues belowWhy are strawberries so popular at Wimbledon?Strawberries and cream have been a tradition at Wimbledon for years. This is thought to date back to the very early days of the competition, in the Victorian era, when the fruit were a seasonal delicacy. At the time, they were only available for a few weeks in June and July. This meant they tied in perfectly with the tennis Grand Slam, and they are still super popular there today. It's reported an impressive 140,000 portions are handed out each year at the tournament. On average, this translates to 28,000 kilograms of strawberries and 7,000 litres of cream being snapped up.
