Cape Town remained calm early on June 30, with no unrest reported as authorities stayed on high alert for planned protests

The City of Cape Town remains relatively quiet on Tuesday, as the June 30 protests loomed.

By 8 am, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis confirmed that there had been no reports of unrest across the metropole.

However, Hill-Lewis said enforcement agencies remain on the ground and monitoring as it "is still early in the day".

He told IOL, "We have a strategic plan in place not just for today but for the rest of the week. As a city, we welcome the right to protest. But we will not tolerate any lawlessness".
