Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs on the ITV soap, has teased his father Ross' arrival could trigger big drama, especially for Cassie Plummer07:31, 30 Jun 2026When Tyrone Dobbs’ daughters tease they have a birthday surprise for him next week, he’s not quite expecting the sudden arrival of his long-lost dad.‌After being tracked down, Ross [Ian Burfield] rocks up to Weatherfield - but he doesn’t get the reaction he’s hoping for. Tyrone isn’t the only one rattled by Ross’ arrival. Tyrone’s mum Cassie is horrified, knowing some big secrets could come to light.‌Alan Halsall, who plays mechanic Tyrone, says: “It’s completely out of the blue; I don’t think anyone would be ready for a scenario like that.” As for Cassie, Alan says she should be afraid. “I think Cassie has been living in fear that she might get found out for the lies she’s told along the way,” says Alan.‌“She’s managed to forge a relationship and have a family with Tyrone, and all of a sudden, it could all come crashing down.” Cassie hasn’t exactly been honest to Tyrone about the identity of his father. Alan shares: “Over the years, she’s told him that she didn't really know him or that they weren't together.“Whenever he’s pushed for answers, he’s been shut down, so he’s had very little information to go on.” Rattled by Ross being back in her life, Cassie will try to stop the father and son from finally bonding. Tyrone does give Ross a chance though.‌Alan says: “Tyrone’s initial perspective is, ‘I’ll just speak to him, get it out of the way, and find out who a part of me is,’ but he doesn't necessarily want a lasting relationship.” But Alan says Tyrone may end up regretting mysterious Ross into his life.He tells us: “He looks at his dad and thinks, ‘I've got a father in my life now, and nothing can go wrong.’ But we know that’s not the case, certainly in Tyrone’s life. He knows full well what kind of trouble and lies this guy could bring to his doorstep.”While Tyrone gains a father in the storyline, he’s set to lose his mother Cassie. Actress Claire Sweeney has left the role after three years. The fallout of Ross’ arrival leads to Cassie leaving Weatherfield for good, as Tyrone has enough.‌Alan explains: “Tyrone is sick of the lies and the trouble she brings to his door. He’s a family man and wants his mum in his life, but he has his own issues without Cassie adding to them.”It was only three years ago that Tyrone was reunited with Cassie, having been led to believe that Jackie Dobbs was his real mum. Her death in 2018 led to Tyrone uncovering the truth, and he tracked down his maternal grandmother Evelyn Plummer [Dame Maureen Lipman ].‌Evelyn lied that Cassie was dead, with her only caught out when Cassie headed to Weatherfield very much alive in 2023. Drama aside, Alan says he’ll miss his co-star Claire. “I get on so well with her,” he says. “I wish her all the best, but I hope to see my mum again soon.”Before she leaves, Tyrone finds out some big secrets and it could tear apart their already fractured relationship for good. Alan says: “Over the last couple of years, there have been lies regarding her addiction and other issues, which have always disappointed Tyrone because he just wants the truth.“With something as big as finding out about his father, discovering more lies attached to that is devastating. He’s completely disappointed and upset with his mother.”‌Cassie spirals in the lead-up to Ross’ arrival, as she hits the bottle after her proposal to her partner Steve McDonald [Simon Gregson] doesn’t go to plan. She makes a pass at another man at the hotel, and is left feeling guilty the next day when Steve tells her he wants to make things work.Ross’ arrival and the threat of her lies unraveling only makes matters worse, not to mention Ross getting cosy with Cassie’s enemy Tracy Barlow [Kate Ford]. With Cassie’s attempts to keep Ross away from Tyrone thwarted, she’s forced to sit back as the pair get to know each other.Article continues belowAs for Tyrone, the more he gets to know his dad the more he wants him in his life. Alan says: “Tyrone really tries. He even goes and plays golf with him, despite having a horrendous back injury.“He eventually starts to see a father figure there; he’s an imposing chap, but quite laid back. Tyrone starts to think, ‘Actually, this guy seems all right, and I could go for a beer with my dad.’ It’s a shame he wasn't in his life, and he starts to understand the circumstances of why that was the case.”
