Greece has, unfortunately, largely lost the game of influence in the United States. The indifference of successive governments, the hegemonic role of the Archdiocese over time, and the natural course of events have weakened the power of the diaspora and its role.
In contrast to Israel, which has managed to control the political game to a large extent, Greece has become hostage to the personal or business ambitions of various, sometimes colorful, diaspora members.
A new effort is needed that will be supported by all Greek governments and the private sector so that the battle of the diaspora is not lost and the country can gain strong footholds in an unpredictable America.
