Egypt’s winning feeling
A 3-1 Group G victory over New Zealand was not only one of the standout Arab results of the group stage, it was one of the most significant in Egypt’s football history. Since becoming the first Arab and African nation to appear at a World Cup in 1934, the Pharaohs had played eight matches across four tournaments – including the opening match against Belgium this year – without recording a single victory.
