Manchester City has named Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager. The appointment, made official on June 29, 2026, brings Maresca back to a club where he previously served as Guardiola’s right-hand man.
Maresca signed a three-year contract running through the summer of 2029. To pry him away from Chelsea, City reportedly paid around £17.2 million, roughly €20 million, in compensation.
The Guardiola succession plan
Maresca worked as Guardiola’s first-team assistant during the 2022-2023 season and also managed the club’s Elite Development Squad during his previous stint at the Etihad.
Reports suggest Maresca may have personally supported his own release from Chelsea, indicating a strong desire to return to Manchester rather than continue navigating life at Stamford Bridge.
