Mexico’s criminals have found fear in the dead of night, in quiet streets and unattended alleyways a silent predator awaits … Mexican Batman.A mysterious vigilante has taken to the streets of Lagos de Moreno, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, ruthlessly dishing out his own brutal brand of justice following a huge spike in crime.Over a 10-day period, at least five suspected bike thieves have been discovered helplessly bound to city lampposts.Photos of the vigilante’s handiwork, shared on X by Mexican journalist Luis Cárdenas, reveal the bizarre and brutal aftermath of the attacks. The alleged crooks are shown strapped to street poles with thick layers of tape wrapping their arms, bodies, and mouths. In one shocking image, two men are duct-taped back-to-back.Leaving a bizarre calling card, the vigilante uses a marker to scrawl the word “ratero” — Spanish for thief — across the suspects’ foreheads, completing the humiliating look with drawn-on moustaches and cat whiskers.Large pink signs are left hanging above the suspects’ heads detailing their alleged crimes, while the supposedly stolen motorbikes are parked right in front of them as proof.Several of the men showed obvious signs of being beaten up, with at least one left heavily bloodied and bruised after his terrifying encounter with the dark knight. But while fed-up locals might be cheering on the “Batman of Lagos de Moreno”, authorities are less than thrilled.State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández stressed that local police are treating the duct-taped men as the victims in this situation. The men were cut free from the poles and treated for their injuries. It remains unclear if they will actually face an investigation for the alleged bike thefts. Now, a manhunt is underway to unmask the vigilante. While no arrests have been made just yet, cops have reportedly identified two vehicles they believe are connected to the string of attacks. It’s not the first time locals have taken the law into their own hands in the cartel-ravaged regions of Mexico. In the nearby state of Michocoán, a group of women have taken up assault rifles to protect their communities from the ruthless Jalisco New Generation cartel. The heavily armed women have even built a homemade tank and set up roadblocks in a desperate bid to stop cartel gunmen responsible for a bloody wave of local homicides. For now, the Mexican Batman remains at large, watching from the shadows.
