For Jarden Eaton, selection for the Commonwealth Games has brought renewed purpose after one of the toughest setbacks of his young career.
The rising butterfly specialist admitted missing out on the South African team for the recent World Championships was difficult to accept, but says earning his place in the squad for next month's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has reaffirmed his long-term ambitions.
"Missing out on the World Championship selections was a difficult moment to process," Eaton said. "A lot of hard work, sacrifice and commitment went into chasing that goal and it hurts when the result doesn't go the way you hoped. But this journey was never only about one meet."
Instead of dwelling on the disappointment, the 20-year-old former junior star shifted his focus to the next opportunity, securing selection for his first senior Commonwealth Games.
