The Lithuanian Armed Forces have received a shipment of M14 Estonian anti-tank mines worth more than 3 million euros, the Defence Ministry said on Monday.
“By accumulating sufficient ammunition reserves – from air defence missiles to anti-tank mines – we are sending a clear message: through consistent actions, we are strengthening the country’s military and the security of the entire region,” Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said.
According to the ministry, anti-tank mines are used to neutralise armoured vehicles, block roads and movement routes, and restrict enemy manoeuvres on the battlefield.
Lithuania is planning to stockpile anti-tank and anti-personnel mines as part of efforts to strengthen border defences.
The country is also building sites to house anti-tank fortifications and has prepared bridges to be quickly demolished in case of an attack.
