Residents of four villages under Guthiyalathur panchayat in Sathyamangalam taluk have submitted a petition to the district administration opposing the proposed establishment of a Tasmac liquor outlet at Anakadu and sought that it be relocated. In the petition submitted during the weekly grievances meeting at the Erode Collectorate on Monday (June 29, 2026), residents of Anakadu, Chinnasalatti, Periyasalatti and Thinnaiyur stated more than 500 families lived in the four villages. They pointed out that the Kadambur–Makkampalayam road was the only major access road for the residents and was used daily by school and college students, women, farmers and motorists.According to the petition, the Tasmac outlet functioning at Kadambur is proposed to be shifted to the Ellupadugai area at Anakadu. The residents alleged that construction work for the new outlet was under way near the Anakadu Ellupadugai bus stop. They contended that locating a liquor outlet near the bus stop would inconvenience commuters and pose safety concerns as the area witnessed heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic throughout the day. They also expressed apprehension that the outlet would affect the safety of women, students and other members of the public. The petitioners further claimed that the proposed site was located close to waterbodies used by cattle for drinking water. They said the functioning of an outlet at the site could lead to littering and pollution, affecting the water sources and the environment. The residents urged the district administration to drop the proposal and identify an alternative site away from residential areas, public places and educational institutions.
