Credit: Mohamad Torokman/ REUTERSDozens of settlers raided Sebastia's Herodion archaeological site, where Israel's Civil Administration has begun the process of expropriating privately owned land in the northern West Bank.This is the largest antiquities-related expropriation order issued in the West Bank since 1967, when Israel occupied the area. Until now, the largest expropriation for archeological purposes was in 1985 at the Susya archeological site in the South Hebron Hills. In that case, 286 dunams (70 acres) were taken by Israel – one-sixth of the planned Sebastia expropriation – and the site was transferred to the South Hebron Hills Regional Council. Palestinian residents were subsequently expelled and barred from accessing the site.In November, the Civil Administration announced it had expropriated 444 acres (1,800 dunams) around the Sebastia archaeological site in the northern West Bank.Elsewhere in the northern West Bank, Palestinians reported settlers breaking into Palestinian homes in Bruqin, west of Salfit, and a settler attack on a security guard in Beita overnight. Footage from the incident shows the guard being pepper-sprayed while working in the town's industrial zone.Israeli security officials say there is still high chance of attack from Lebanon, IranIsraeli security officials reported that there is still a high chance of an attack from Iran or Lebanon being carried out on Israeli civilians, according to a document submitted to government heads.Government ministers are approving, in an urgent telephone vote, an extension of the special state of emergency on the home front in line with the document. The extension will be brought before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee for approval so that it can take effect.The home front state of emergency has been in effect since the outbreak of the war with Iran on February 28, subject to repeated extensions.
