Google Cloud has struck a strategic partnership with SandboxAQ, the AI and quantum technology firm that spun out of Alphabet back in March 2022, to distribute SandboxAQ’s specialist AI models through Google Cloud’s infrastructure and marketplace. The deal, announced on January 21, 2025, designates Google Cloud as SandboxAQ’s preferred cloud provider.
The partnership is not about chatbots or general-purpose language models. SandboxAQ builds what it calls Large Quantitative Models, a category of AI designed to simulate real-world physical phenomena rather than generate text.
SandboxAQ’s core product is a suite of models built for sectors where conventional AI falls short. Drug discovery, chemistry, materials science, sensing, and cybersecurity are its primary application areas.
The Google Cloud Marketplace integration makes the procurement process substantially easier for enterprise clients, removing friction from what is typically a long and painful sales cycle in regulated industries.
Thomas Kurian, Google Cloud’s CEO, framed the partnership as accelerating the delivery of specialized AI solutions to enterprise customers, emphasizing the shared focus on high-stakes application areas where generic AI tools simply are not adequate.
