Musicians will take to the Artscape Opera House stage on Monday evening to celebrate the life and legacy of South African jazz icon Abdullah Ibrahim.

The South African arts community will gather in Cape Town on Monday evening to celebrate the life and legacy of legendary jazz musician Abdullah Ibrahim, with a special memorial concert at the Artscape Opera House on June 29.

The memorial concert, to be held at the Artscape has unfortunately sold out, but those wishing to participate are encouraged to join the live stream available at abdullahibrahim.co.za.

Organised by the Artscape and supported by Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) and musicians, the tribute event will bring together some of the country's leading musicians to perform works from Ibrahim's extensive catalogue, honouring a career that spanned more than six decades and left an indelible mark on South African and global music.

Widely regarded as one of South Africa's greatest cultural ambassadors, Ibrahim's music became synonymous with the country's struggle, resilience and aspirations. Through compositions that blended jazz with African musical traditions, he earned international acclaim and helped place South African jazz on the world stage.
