Apple is to skip a generation of its high-end in-house desktop computing processors, Bloomberg reported, as unprecedented manufacturing shortages force it to re-evaluate its plans.

The report comes amid price hikes for Apple’s laptops and tablets, which it attributed to the shortages and the resulting surge in memory and storage prices.

Apple is currently manufacturing M5 chips for its desktop and laptop computers, and is planning to bring out a base M6 chip as early as this year, according to the Bloomberg report.
