Self-care is the ability of individuals, families and communities to promote and maintain their own health, prevent disease, and cope with illness — with or without the support of a health or care worker. The WHO’s ‘Self-care month’ (June 24 to July 24) aims to put “your health in your hands” through the “Test. Track. Thrive” methods.Self-care actions include healthy practices, habits and lifestyle choices, such as eating a healthy diet, being physically active, refraining from tobacco, avoiding alcohol consumption, getting enough sleep and connecting with others. Self-care interventions include diagnostics to screen for conditions, besides devices for self-monitoring conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, and drugs such as over-the-counter emergency contraception or paracetamol.Published on June 29, 2026
